Shoreditch, railway station in the United Kingdom
Shoreditch is a decommissioned London Underground station located on the surface in Tower Hamlets. The station had a simple layout with one platform and a single track in its later years, though it originally had two of each.
The station opened in 1876 on the East London Railway as a stopping point for trains from the main railway line. It was permanently closed in 2006 as part of a plan to extend the East London Line, with a new station called Shoreditch High Street opening nearby in 2010.
The old station building is not open to the public as it is no longer in operation, but you can see the structure and platform remains from the street. The area is easy to reach on foot and the site is located in a lively neighborhood with shops and galleries nearby.
After closure, the abandoned station building was temporarily used as a pop-up cinema where visitors watched films while sitting in hot tubs and bean bags. The site also appeared in the film Tube Tales, which featured scenes from the London Underground and captured the ghostly quality of its unused platforms.
