Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Cricket stadium in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England
Edgbaston Cricket Ground is a cricket stadium in southern Birmingham that hosts major national and international matches. It consists of several stands with covered and open seating, a pavilion at the northern end, and playing pitches with manicured grass in the center.
The ground opened in 1882 and became the third permanent home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club from 1886 onward. Over the decades, operators expanded the site with new stands and facilities to accommodate international competitions.
The name Edgbaston comes from the leafy suburb south of the city center where the ground has stood for over a century. On match days, fans gather in the stands and walkways to experience a central part of English cricket life.
Access is through several gates assigned according to stand and ticket type. Parking is available near the stadium, and connections to central Birmingham are easy to reach using public transport.
In 1994, Brian Lara scored 501 runs in a single innings here, setting the world record in first-class cricket. That mark remains unbeaten today and stands among the most remembered moments at the ground.
