Tredegar

Tredegar is a town along the Sirhowy River in a valley surrounded by hills that once supplied coal and ore for mining and iron production. The settlement spreads across this natural basin with buildings that reflect its industrial past.

Samuel Homfray built the first furnace in 1797, transforming Tredegar from a small settlement into a major industrial center. Iron production and mining defined the town for more than a century.

The Tredegar Town Band, established in 1849, keeps a musical tradition alive with regular performances and competitions across Wales. This brass band remains central to how locals gather and celebrate together.

Visitors can explore Bedwellty Park with its extensive gardens, walking paths, and a Victorian mansion. The former estate house now operates as a museum and community gathering place.

The Tredegar Town Clock was built in 1858 and stands at the center of the circular town square. This clock serves as a natural gathering point that locals and visitors naturally move toward.
