St Donat's Castle, Medieval castle in St Donats, Wales
St Donat's Castle stands on cliffs overlooking the Bristol Channel, featuring curtain walls, gatehouses, and interior elements from multiple architectural periods.
The castle originated in the 12th century under the de Hawey family and remained in the Stradling family's possession for four centuries until 1738.
American newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst acquired the castle in 1925 and invested heavily in renovations, incorporating materials from other historic structures.
The castle now operates as Atlantic College, accommodating 350 international students from more than 90 countries in its residential facilities.
The castle gardens extend through Tudor-period terraces that descend toward the sea, offering views across the Bristol Channel to the Somerset coastline.
