Arlington House, Grade II listed hostel in Camden Town, England.
Arlington House is a Grade II listed residential building in Camden Town that houses around 150 people in different types of accommodation. The building combines shelter units for homeless individuals with below-market rental apartments, along with conference spaces and training programs for skill development.
The building opened in 1905 as the final and largest Rowton House, initially providing about 1,200 places in Camden. It remains the only active Rowton House still in operation, preserving an important chapter of social housing from the early 1900s.
Photographer Deirdre O'Callaghan spent four years documenting daily routines at Arlington House, publishing her work in the book Hide That Can. Her project offers a personal glimpse into how residents actually live and spend their time within the building.
The building sits in a central London neighborhood and is easily accessible by public transport. Since it is a residential facility, visitor access is limited and must be arranged in advance through proper channels.
It is the only Rowton House still operating and houses the largest residential community for Irish men outside Ireland. This distinction makes it a significant location within London's Irish diaspora.
