Lightwater Valley, Theme park in North Yorkshire, England
Lightwater Valley is an amusement park in North Yorkshire with more than 40 rides and attractions designed mainly for children up to twelve years old. The site spreads across open grounds with play areas, carousels, and themed zones connected by paved walkways.
The site began in 1969 as a small fruit farm run by the Staveley family, who had owned the land since the 16th century. The Brighton Pier Group took over the park in 2021 and shifted the focus toward younger visitors with family-friendly rides.
Every October the grounds transform as costumed performers roam the paths and families walk between spooky decorations and rides. Visitors see carved pumpkins lining the main walkways and hear eerie music playing from hidden speakers.
The park works best for families with toddlers and primary school children, as most attractions target this age group. Checking the website before visiting helps confirm which areas and rides will be open on that day.
Until 2023 the site held The Ultimate, a roller coaster stretching over two kilometers that once ranked as the longest in the world. The track wound through woodland and open fields, offering long gentle sections between curves.
