Raptor Attack, Underground roller coaster at Lightwater Valley, North Yorkshire, England
Raptor Attack was a steel roller coaster housed inside a warehouse at the base of a former quarry at Lightwater Valley in North Yorkshire. The ride took visitors through a dark mine-themed environment where mechanical velociraptors appeared along the track.
The attraction first opened in 1987 as Rat Ride with a sewer theme before being redesigned as Raptor Attack in 2010. Operations ended in 2020.
The ride generated public reaction in its early years when the park offered rewards for dead rats as part of its marketing strategy.
The ride traveled through more than 400 meters of track reaching speeds around 50 kilometers per hour with a maximum height near 11 meters. The ride was short and designed for families with older children.
The ride featured a chain-driven climb into complete darkness followed by unexpected drops where mechanical dinosaurs emerged from hidden spots. This surprise element made each ride unpredictable.
