Neath

Neath is a town in South Wales situated in a valley where the river of the same name flows through. The surrounding landscape features green hills and wooded areas that frame the town's mix of historic and modern buildings.

Roman forces built a fort called Nidum around 75 CE at this location, establishing permanent settlement in the valley. Medieval times brought a Cistercian monastery that was later modified and expanded with additional structures.

Neath hosts a September festival featuring Welsh poetry, music performances, and traditional craft exhibitions at Victoria Gardens.

The railway station offers regular connections to larger towns in the region, making it easy to arrive and depart. The town itself is walkable, with most points of interest located in the center.

Neath Abbey retains Grade I listed status and contains remains of the Cistercian monastery with a Tudor mansion built into the medieval stonework. This layering of different architectural periods shows how successive generations added to the same site over centuries.
