Sherborne School, Independent boarding school in Sherborne, England
Sherborne School is a boarding school for boys in the center of the small town of Sherborne in Dorset, serving male students between the ages of 13 and 18. The buildings made of golden stone stand directly beside the abbey and accommodate approximately 600 students.
The site served as a place of learning since the 8th century and was refounded as an official school in 1550 under King Edward VI. Teaching has continued without interruption at the same location ever since.
The school maintains academic excellence with three quarters of A-level results graded A or A*, while fostering leadership through sports, music, and drama programs.
The campus is located directly in the historic town center and can be reached on foot from Sherborne railway station in a few minutes. Visitors can view the grounds from the outside; access to interior spaces is usually limited to guided tours or special events.
An early pupil was the Anglo-Saxon king Alfred the Great, who studied here in the 9th century. The uninterrupted use of the site for over 1,300 years is rare to find in England.
