Lochranza Castle, Medieval castle in Lochranza, Scotland
The L-shaped tower house stands on a narrow peninsula extending into Loch Ranza, featuring architectural elements from both the 13th and 16th centuries.
King Alexander III granted the castle to Walter Stewart in 1262, and Robert the Bruce landed at this location in 1306 upon returning from Ireland.
The castle structure influenced illustrations in the third edition of The Adventures of Tintin series, specifically in the album The Black Island.
The castle opens daily from April through September between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM, with final entry permitted at 5:00 PM.
The structure evolved from a rare hall-house into an L-plan tower house, displaying the transformation of Scottish castle architecture across three centuries.
