Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery
Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery, War cemetery in Brocton, England
Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery sits on rolling hills with uniform rows of dark granite headstones marking burial sites of German military personnel. The grounds include a chapel and maintained gardens that give the location a solemn character.
Following a 1959 agreement between Britain and Germany, this cemetery opened in 1967 to consolidate German war graves from across Britain. The site was created to honor fallen soldiers in a dignified manner at one location.
The chapel here holds artwork honoring the fallen soldiers and offers visitors a place for reflection. Today, family members and others come to pay respects and remember those buried here.
The cemetery maintains regular visiting hours and provides detailed burial records through the German War Graves Commission for genealogical research. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are hilly with paths leading to different areas.
Each granite headstone bears inscriptions on both front and back, commemorating two individuals while maintaining dignity and saving space. This dual-purpose design reflects a thoughtful solution for honoring many fallen soldiers within the grounds.
