Eaton Hall, English country house in Eccleston, United Kingdom
Eaton Hall is an English country house in Eccleston, United Kingdom, set on a large estate near Chester. The current building follows the style of French châteaux, with pale stone facades, tall windows, and articulated rooflines.
The Grosvenor family acquired the land in the 1440s and built the first major house in 1675 using stone from Holt Castle in Wales. The current structure was completed in 1991 after the demolition of a modernist building from the 1960s.
The property takes its name from the nearby village and remains home to the Grosvenor family, who continue to reside on the grounds. Visitors who attend open days can observe the maintained gardens and gain insight into the lifestyle of a centuries-old English noble household.
The grounds open only on selected charity days each year, when visitors can walk through the gardens and sometimes view temporary exhibitions. Anyone planning a visit should check opening dates in advance, as access is limited.
During the Second World War, the house accommodated parts of the Britannia Royal Naval College, which had relocated from Dartmouth due to bombing raids. Naval officers trained in the rooms and on the grounds during this period.
