Callanish II, Neolithic stone circle on Isle of Lewis, Scotland

A collection of standing stones arranged in a circular pattern measuring 11.4 meters in diameter forms the secondary megalithic structure near Callanish village.

The stone circle dates back approximately 5000 years, serving as a center for religious and ceremonial activities during the late Neolithic period.

Local residents historically named these stones 'fir bhrèige', meaning false men, connecting them to ancient tales of giants who refused Christian conversion.

The site remains accessible from the top road near Stornoway, while the visitor center undergoes renovations scheduled for completion in 2026.

Archaeological excavations at the circle revealed pottery fragments indicating continuous ritual and funerary practices spanning several centuries of prehistoric life.
