Camelot Theme Park, Medieval-themed amusement park in Chorley, England
Camelot Theme Park was a medieval-themed amusement park situated on 140 acres of land in Chorley. The site featured nine roller coasters, with Knightmare and Tower of Terror standing out as two intense sit-down rides designed for thrill-seekers.
The site opened in 1983 and ran seasonally until closure in 2012, spending nearly three decades entertaining visitors. Ownership changed hands multiple times over the years, passing through different management companies before eventually shutting down.
The park drew from Arthurian legends throughout its design, with medieval-themed performances and falconry demonstrations that made those stories feel alive. Visitors experienced a staged version of this legendary world through both its attractions and regular shows.
The former park grounds are now accessed through Camelot Rises, a drive-through zombie experience set among the abandoned structures. Most days the site is open, though booking ahead is recommended to ensure your spot.
When the park closed, some rides found new homes elsewhere, with the Whirlwind roller coaster making its way to Skyline Park in Germany. That coaster continues to deliver thrills to visitors at its new location across the continent.
