Salford City Stadium, Multi-purpose sports venue in Barton-upon-Irwell, Greater Manchester, England
Salford City Stadium is a sports complex in Barton-upon-Irwell, Greater Manchester, with four main stands and seating for 11,500 spectators, including standing and seated sections. The facility also houses meeting rooms, executive suites, and a banqueting hall that can host events for 10 to 1,000 guests.
Construction started in 2010 with a budget of 26 million pounds, replacing the old Willows ground that had been used for decades. The facility opened in February 2012, providing modern infrastructure for training and matches.
The venue serves as a shared home for both teams, with fixtures alternating between rugby league and rugby union throughout the year. On match days, supporters of both codes gather and use the stands and terraces to follow their respective teams.
Visitors can reach the venue via the A57, with parking available nearby for cars and coaches. Access routes to the stands are level, allowing wheelchair users and those with limited mobility to reach most areas without barriers.
In November 2013, the venue hosted matches from the Rugby League World Cup, including the fixture between Scotland and the United States. Although designed primarily for rugby, it has also held football matches and other sporting events.
