Norwich Market, Open-air market in Norwich, England
Norwich Market is an open-air marketplace with around 190 stalls arranged in parallel rows offering fresh produce, handmade goods, flowers, and various services. The space operates throughout the week with different vendors rotating to create a varied shopping experience.
The marketplace was founded in the 11th century by Norman merchants as a trading center for the growing settlement and has operated continuously since then. Its current layout between St Peter Mancroft church and the Guildhall has remained unchanged since 1341.
The market square serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors connect over everyday shopping and conversation. The mix of traders and shoppers creates a social rhythm that has defined community life for generations.
The market operates with full vendor presence from Monday through Saturday, while Sundays feature a limited selection of stalls. Ample parking is available nearby, making it easy to visit by car or explore the surrounding streets.
The marketplace has maintained its original rectangular shape for more than 680 years and is framed by two historic buildings on opposite sides. This long continuity and spatial stability make it one of few trading places that has kept its basic layout virtually unchanged since medieval times.
