Flat Holm Lighthouse, Maritime beacon in Bristol Channel, Wales

The white cylindrical tower rises 30 meters high on Flat Holm Island, featuring a balcony and lantern positioned 50 meters above sea level.

The lighthouse began operating in December 1737 after a maritime tragedy where 60 soldiers drowned near the Holms prompted its construction.

Trinity House acquired the structure in 1823, implementing technical improvements including a fountain oil lamp in 1825 and new lantern systems.

The lighthouse emits three flashes every ten seconds, with white light visible up to 33 kilometers and red sectors covering specific navigation angles.

In February 1902, sand particles from the Sahara Desert covered the entire lighthouse structure, requiring extensive cleaning of its glass surfaces.
