North Bridge, Road bridge in Old Town, Edinburgh, Scotland
The North Bridge spans 525 feet with three steel arches connecting Edinburgh's High Street to Princes Street across the Waverley Station railway tracks.
George Drummond initiated construction of the first North Bridge in 1763, creating a link between Old Town and New Town after draining the North Loch.
The bridge features a military memorial by William Birnie Rhind commemorating the King's Own Scottish Borderers soldiers from the late nineteenth century campaigns.
The structure carries vehicle traffic, pedestrians, and public transportation on route A7, linking the medieval section with the Georgian district of Edinburgh.
Sir William Arrol constructed this bridge between 1894 and 1897, applying engineering knowledge gained from building the Forth Bridge railway crossing.
