Divis

Divis is a mountain in the Belfast Hills where walking paths lead through heathland and boggy terrain to the summit. The peak sits at around 475 meters and offers open views across the surrounding landscape on clearer days.

The area shows signs of ancient farming methods that still shape agricultural practices in the surrounding landscape. This long tradition of land use has molded the mountain and the region we see today.

The mountain serves as a central feature in Northern Irish folklore and regional traditions, connecting local communities to their natural heritage.

Two parking areas serve visitors: a lower car park on Divis Road and an upper one near a coffee barn with restrooms. Starting from either location gets you on the trails, though the upper car park requires less walking to reach higher elevation paths.

Marker poles along the paths help hikers stay oriented during dense fog and cloudy conditions on the mountain. These simple aids show how quickly weather can reduce visibility in this open terrain, making navigation tricky without them.
