Smeaton's Tower, Grade I listed lighthouse at Plymouth Hoe, England
The 22-meter stone tower features alternating red and white stripes with a lantern room at the summit providing views over Plymouth Sound.
Originally constructed on Eddystone Reef in 1759, the lighthouse was dismantled and reconstructed stone by stone at Plymouth Hoe in 1882.
Engineer John Smeaton's design revolutionized lighthouse construction by incorporating interlocking stone blocks and introducing a broad base inspired by oak tree trunks.
Visitors need to climb 93 steps to reach the viewing platform, with admission fees of 5 pounds for adults and 2.50 pounds for children.
The lighthouse operated with 24 candles for illumination until 1810, when they were replaced with oil lamps and reflectors for enhanced maritime safety.
