Armada Memorial, Historic memorial at Plymouth Hoe, England
The Armada Memorial features a tall granite structure topped with a bronze statue of Britannia and includes detailed bronze crests along its base.
Built in 1888 to mark 300 years since the Spanish Armada's defeat, this Grade II* listed monument stands where English captains first spotted the fleet.
The memorial incorporates symbolic elements including a lion representing British strength and inscriptions commemorating the naval triumph against the Spanish fleet.
Located on Plymouth Hoe's elevated position, visitors can access the memorial while exploring other historical landmarks and enjoying views across Plymouth Sound.
The granite used for construction came from Gunnislake quarry in Cornwall, selected for its characteristic white color and fine-grained texture.
