Bishop Observatory, Private astronomical observatory in Regent's Park, London, England

Bishop Observatory was a private astronomical observatory in Regent's Park housing a telescope mounted in a rotating dome. This setup allowed observers to study the night sky and track celestial objects across the heavens.

Founded in 1836 by George Bishop, the observatory operated as a research center for over 2 decades. When Bishop died in 1861, the equipment and observations were relocated to Twickenham to continue the work.

The observatory became a gathering place where London's astronomers and visiting researchers shared their work and discoveries. It served as a hub where people pursued their interest in studying the night sky together.

The original site is now located within Regent's Park near the Inner Circle and York Bridge. The spot is easily accessible as part of the park, though nothing remains of the actual building to see.

John Russell Hind discovered ten minor planets from this observatory between 1847 and 1854. These findings helped advance knowledge of our solar system significantly.
