Aintree Institute, Music venue in Walton, Liverpool, England.
Aintree Institute was a performance venue on Longmoor Lane that hosted concerts and community events in a dedicated hall. The facility provided a stage for various forms of entertainment and drew visitors from across the wider area.
The institute was founded in the 1890s by Sir William Pickels Hartley as a clubhouse for the Aintree Photographic Society. It later evolved into a music venue that attracted performers and audiences for decades.
The venue played a significant role in Liverpool's 1960s music scene, particularly in nurturing the local beat music movement that drew and developed musicians of the era.
The building was demolished in 2007 and the site now operates as a pay-and-display car park. Visitors should note that the original venue no longer stands and only its history remains at this location.
During World War II, security measures restricted access to the venue due to tensions between different groups in the area. This reflects how major entertainment spaces were affected by the broader challenges of their time.
