Andover Estate, Public housing estate in Holloway, London, United Kingdom
Andover Estate is a public housing development in Holloway, North London, located between Hornsey Road, Seven Sisters Road, Durham Road, and Birnam Road. The area contains multi-story residential blocks arranged around shared courtyards and open spaces with pathways connecting different sections.
Construction of the first section along Andover Road began in 1938 as an early public housing project. The main development took shape between 1973 and 1979, when older post-war structures were demolished to make way for the current residential blocks.
Three distinctive triangular buildings called Didbin, Noll, and Docura Houses shape how the estate looks and feels. Their names reflect the architectural practices that were active in the area when these structures were built.
The estate is easy to explore on foot, with bus stops nearby and pathways running through the area connecting different sections. Ongoing improvements to lighting, walkways, and green spaces make navigation easier and the environment more welcoming.
Young residents collaborated with filmmaker Michelle Golding to create a documentary that countered negative media coverage about the area. The film gave community members a chance to share their own perspectives and experiences of living here.
