All Saints' Church, Anglican church in Monkwearmouth, England
All Saints' Church is an Anglican parish church in Monkwearmouth built in Early English style using brick construction. The building is listed as Grade II and continues to serve as an active place of worship for the Diocese of Durham today.
The church was consecrated in 1849 by Bishop E. Maltby in response to the growing population during the industrial period. It later became a center for theological innovation within the Anglican faith.
Alexander Boddy served as vicar from 1884 onward and shaped the spiritual life of the congregation through his openness to new faith movements and healing practices. His work drew visitors from across the country who came to experience these spiritual experiments.
The church is accessible to visitors during service times and designated visiting hours in the Monkwearmouth area. It is worth checking ahead to learn which times are best for visits outside of regular worship services.
Between 1908 and 1914 the church hosted the Sunderland Conventions, major gatherings where important debates about emerging religious movements took place. These events made the building a focal point for significant spiritual discussion of that era.
