Aston Hall, Aston-on-Trent

Aston Hall is a Georgian mansion with traditional architecture and a substantial north wing, set in the Derbyshire countryside. The estate features landscaped grounds laid out around the main residence in the style typical of country houses from that era.

The house became a care facility for mental health in 1930 under Nottingham Corporation and later joined the National Health Service. This transition made it an important institution for regional healthcare through much of the 20th century.

The building shows how healthcare changed over time, moving from a family home to a place treating mental health patients. You can see how the different rooms were adapted for therapy and care.

The grounds are easy to walk and provide plenty of space to explore the exterior and surrounding landscape. Wear sturdy footwear as the grounds can be uneven, especially after rain.

Archaeological digs at the site uncovered pottery and flints from the Early Neolithic period, showing human activity here thousands of years before the house was built. These findings reveal how long people have occupied this land.
