Amersham Museum, Independent museum in Old Amersham, England
Amersham Museum is an independent museum located in a Grade II listed half-timbered house dating from the 15th century with medieval features in the old town center. The exhibition spaces extend into a neighboring former post office that was added in 2017, providing additional display areas for its collections.
The museum was founded in 1991 and developed to share stories about local life in this place. A major expansion in 2017 into the adjacent post office building created more space for displaying its collections.
The exhibits show how people lived here across different time periods, with rooms recreating a Tudor dining space, a 1930s living room, and a 1960s record shop. Visitors walk through these settings and understand how daily life changed over the generations.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 16:30 and welcomes visitors across its two buildings. The rooms are spread across multiple floors, so visitors should be prepared to climb stairs.
The house contains a gallery dedicated to an Austrian artist who lived here during World War II. Her story connects this small town to a larger chapter of European history.
