Battleby, Category B listed house in Redgorton, Scotland.
Battleby is a red sandstone house on elevated grounds near Redgorton, designed by architect David Smart between 1861 and 1863. The two-story building displays characteristic features from that period and now serves as office space.
The house was built in the 1860s and served as a hospital during World War I. After the war, it changed hands and was adapted for different uses by successive owners.
The red sandstone house expresses the values and status that wealthy property owners wanted to display during the 19th century. Its careful design and materials reflect how families in this region built their homes to show their position in society.
The house is located roughly 6 kilometers north of Perth and is accessible via the A9 road. Since it now functions as an office building, visitor access is limited and it is mainly visible from the outside.
The estate takes its name from an ancient conflict that reportedly occurred nearby at Luncarty. This link to local history adds a layer of meaning beyond its role as a 19th-century residence.
