Backmuir Wood, Woodland north of Dundee, Scotland.
Backmuir Wood is a woodland north of Dundee spanning roughly 140 acres of mixed forest with sections of oak, beech, sycamore, alder, Scots pine, and rowan. Four main entry points lead to about 9 kilometers of marked walking paths that wind through these different tree zones.
The Woodland Trust acquired this forest in 1996 with backing from Scottish Natural Heritage. The site has since grown through multiple land acquisitions that expanded its boundaries.
This woodland serves as a place for people to connect with nature through walking and quiet observation of the forest. Visitors come to experience the different tree zones and encounter the wildlife that moves through the canopy and undergrowth.
Four main entry points make it easy to reach the woodland, and all walking paths are clearly marked for easy navigation. Wear suitable footwear since some trails pass through muddy and uneven ground.
Red squirrels, a protected species in the United Kingdom, live in this woodland and are often spotted among the pine trees. Visitors are frequently surprised to encounter these animals alongside other birds of prey like buzzards and kestrels.
