Battle of Britain Bunker

The Battle of Britain Bunker is an underground operations center beneath RAF Uxbridge that sits about 60 feet below ground. It contains the original map table, squadron display boards, and the communication equipment from wartime.

The operations center was built to coordinate RAF Fighter Command's defense strategies against German air raids in 1940. The bunker became central to tracking and directing air battles during this critical time.

The operations room keeps its original 1940s layout, and visitors can experience the space where military strategists made crucial decisions about air defense. You can still see the original workstations and communication tools that people used back then.

The center is located at Wren Avenue in Uxbridge and is open daily, with guided tours, a café, and event spaces. Plan for several hours to explore the underground rooms and fully appreciate the displayed artifacts.

During World War II, the structure was camouflaged as a decorative garden, with earth barriers and concrete layers protecting it from air attacks. This disguise allowed the center to continue its vital work without being discovered.
