Black Park, Protected natural area in Wexham, Buckinghamshire, England
Black Park is a protected woodland site with heath and several ponds in Wexham, Buckinghamshire. The grounds cover roughly 250 hectares (620 acres) with sandy paths and small bodies of water that shelter rare plants and animals.
Canadian forestry units felled trees here during both World Wars to supply military timber, which shaped the current vegetation and appearance of the site. Replanting came later, so some sections look younger than others.
Visitors often recognize parts of the woodland from well-known films shot nearby at Pinewood Studios. Some clearings and paths feel oddly familiar because they appeared on screen as fictional worlds in major cinema productions.
Walking and cycling routes run through different areas, while fishing spots sit along the edges of individual ponds. A treetop adventure course with climbing elements adds options for visitors who want outdoor exercise and sport.
The site contains gravel deposits from the Anglian cold period roughly 450,000 years ago that serve as a reference point for this type of formation. Specialists from different countries visit to study these ancient sediments and compare them with other sites.
