Biddick Hall, 18th century country mansion in Bournmoor, England

Biddick Hall is a country mansion built from red brick and stone featuring Queen Anne Baroque design with two storeys, five bays, and Ionic pilasters supporting an entablature and pediment. The structure displays the craftsmanship typical of early 18th century architecture in this region.

The Lambton family acquired the South Biddick estate from the Bowes family in the early 1600s and later replaced the original manor with the current building in the early 1700s. The house stands as an example of estate development in County Durham during this period.

The entrance hall displays architectural elements like Doric pilasters, wrought-iron railings, and decorative plasterwork that reflect the craftsmanship of the period. These details shape the character of the interior and show the taste of the wealthy family who lived here.

The building stands in a rural area between Sunderland and Chester-le-Street and is easily accessible via local roads. The location allows for a visit combined with other attractions in County Durham.

The mansion served as a filming location for the BBC series The Paradise and the 2015 film Estranged, playing a prominent role in exterior scenes. This film history gives it modern connections that extend beyond its architectural significance.
