Borough Welsh Congregational Chapel, Grade II listed religious building in Southwark, England

Borough Welsh Congregational Chapel is a listed religious building on Southwark Bridge Road with seating for about 500 and traditional architectural features. The building now offers a renovated hall that hosts various events and community activities.

The congregation began in 1774 when Edward Jones started Welsh services in Cock Lane and built a strong community base. The current building was constructed in 1872 and became the center of this established Welsh religious community.

The chapel preserves Welsh language traditions through bilingual services that bring the community together regularly. Visitors can experience the connection to Welsh culture and its expressions during these gatherings.

The chapel is near Borough Underground Station and easily reached by public transport. The renovated hall is open to visitors and available for various events throughout the year.

The building sustained significant damage during the 1990 Burns Day storm and underwent a six-month reconstruction period afterward. This restoration gave the chapel renewed life and enabled modernization of its facilities.
