Blacknor Fort, Military fort on Isle of Portland, England
The coastal fortification features two gun emplacements and an observation post positioned along the cliffs overlooking the English Channel.
Built between 1900 and 1902, Blacknor Fort served as a defensive position with two 9.2-inch guns to protect Portland Harbour during both World Wars.
The fort holds records of the Slapton Sands incident in 1944, when gunners witnessed hundreds of American soldiers drowning during Exercise Tiger.
The fort, now divided into three private properties, maintains external fortification elements that visitors can observe from designated viewing points.
Two original gun emplacements and an observation station remain intact outside the main perimeter, positioned directly on the cliff edge.
