Breamore House, Manor house museum in Breamore, Hampshire, England
Breamore House is a manor built during the Elizabethan period in Hampshire with a symmetrical facade and multiple stories. Inside, collections of period furniture and paintings fill the grand rooms, arranged to show how each space was used.
The house was built in 1583 by the Dodington family on the grounds of a former monastery. A major fire in 1856 damaged it severely, after which the Hulse family carried out extensive restoration work.
The house displays how wealthy families lived across different periods, with rooms arranged to show their daily habits and the objects that mattered to them. Walking through reveals the tastes and preferences of former residents who shaped the space over generations.
The house is open to visitors during the warmer months, with guided tours covering the main rooms and gardens. The grounds are easy to walk around, though it helps to check conditions before your visit.
The grounds have served as a filming location for modern productions, including a 2005 film adaptation and a 2009 television production. Both projects used the building's architecture and grounds to portray historical settings.
