Bourne Woods, Coniferous woodland near Farnham, England
Bourne Woods is a coniferous woodland near Farnham that spreads across the western section of the Greensand Ridge. The forest contains Bronze Age burial mounds scattered throughout and features numerous walking paths threading through the pine forest.
During World War II, the site housed searchlight positions and military installations operated by Canadian forces. Traces of these wartime structures remain scattered throughout the forest.
The woodland became a filming location for major productions including Gladiator, Harry Potter, and House of the Dragon. The forest provided natural backdrops for these entertainment projects.
The woodland opens from dawn to dusk every day and provides parking facilities for visitors. Well-marked paths make it easy to navigate different walking routes through the forest.
The site was originally heathland, later became a commercial conifer plantation, and is now being restored to its natural heath state by conservation organizations. This transformation spans more than a century of land management changes.
