Burton Constable Hall, Elizabethan country house in Burton Constable, England
Burton Constable Hall is an Elizabethan country house containing over thirty decorated rooms with fine art, antique furniture, and family artifacts accumulated through generations. The grounds also include stable buildings that form part of the visit.
The Constable family has controlled the property since the 12th century, with Sir John Constable beginning construction of the present house in the mid-1500s. The building was expanded in later periods while remaining in family ownership.
The Long Gallery displays paintings and decorative items that shaped how the family used indoor spaces during bad weather. This room shows how residents displayed their collections and spent time throughout the seasons.
The property is reached via the A165 and B1238 roads, with guided tours available through the main house and stable buildings. Allow plenty of time to explore the numerous rooms and outdoor areas.
The stable block contains the skeleton of a sperm whale that washed ashore in 1825 and gained literary recognition. This unusual find reveals the owners' interests in the wider world and maritime curiosities.
