Bury Camp

Bury Camp is an Iron Age hillfort situated on a triangular promontory in Colerne Down, Wiltshire. The site features defensive ditches and ramparts that form the original fortification system, with the northeastern entrance marking the main access route.

The fortification was built around 350 BC during the Iron Age as a community settlement. Archaeological evidence also shows earlier occupation from Neolithic and Mesolithic times at this location.

The site reveals everyday life through pottery fragments and animal bones left behind by residents who once lived here. These objects tell stories of people who farmed and built communities in this place long ago.

Sturdy footwear is needed to navigate the uneven earthworks and ditches safely. The site is openly accessible, though the ground can become slippery after rain, so care is advised when visiting.
