Bromley War Memorial, War memorial obelisk in Bromley, England
Bromley War Memorial is a Portland stone obelisk at the edge of Martin's Hill Park. Three bronze figures decorate its surface - a Victory figure holding a laurel wreath, a Liberty figure carrying a torch, and a Peace figure bearing flowers - while inscribed names cover all four sides.
The obelisk was designed by architect Sydney March and unveiled in 1922 by Lord Henry Horne. It was originally built to commemorate those who died in World War I, but was later expanded to also honor victims of World War II.
This memorial serves as the community's gathering place for annual remembrance, with inscribed names visible on all four sides that stand as a testament to loss from both wars.
The memorial sits at the edge of Martin's Hill Park, easily accessible from the corner of Glassmill Lane and Church Road. It remains open year-round and has space for groups attending remembrance ceremonies.
The obelisk holds Grade II* listing status, one of the highest protection levels in England for historic buildings and structures. This classification recognizes both the artistic quality of the memorial and its cultural importance to the region.
