Carmel transmitting station, Radio transmitter station in Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Wales.
Carmel is a transmitting station in Llanfihangel Aberbythych with a 151.9 meter mast that rises above the Carmarthenshire landscape. The facility broadcasts television and radio signals across multiple Welsh regions, reaching areas from Pembrokeshire and Powys to parts of Ceredigion and the north Devon coast.
The facility started broadcasting three national UHF television services in 1973 and gradually expanded its transmission capabilities over the following decades. This growth allowed the station to serve larger audiences and keep pace with technological changes.
The station broadcasts S4C programming, allowing Welsh-language television to reach Carmarthenshire and surrounding counties. This service has helped preserve and promote Welsh media in homes across the region.
The site is accessible by road in a rural area of Carmarthenshire. Note that the station operates as working infrastructure, which may limit access to the grounds.
In 2009, the facility completed its shift from analogue to digital broadcasting, installing new multiplexes that provided stronger coverage and improved transmission frequencies. This changeover represented a major modernization step for regional services.
