Cambridge Blackfriars, Dominican priory in Cambridge, England
Cambridge Blackfriars is a Dominican priory located near Murray Edwards College on Buckingham Road. The property consists of two connected houses that accommodate the monastery and its associated chapel.
The original priory received a royal grant in 1238 but was dissolved in 1538 during religious upheavals. The community reestablished itself in 1938 at the current location.
The priory maintains Dominican traditions through regular worship and liturgical practices that visitors can witness firsthand as part of the active religious community. It serves as a living center for Catholic faith in Cambridge.
The priory welcomes visitors who wish to attend Mass, which takes place daily throughout the week. Visiting during morning services or on Sunday is ideal for experiencing the community at its most active.
A medieval statue of the Virgin and Child from the original medieval priory was preserved and is now housed in the Church of Our Lady and English Martyrs in Cambridge. This artwork survives as a tangible link to the site's long history.
