Centro Iberico, Social center in Notting Hill, London, United Kingdom.
Centro Iberico was a self-managed cultural center housed in a former school building on Harrow Road. The space functioned as a venue for concerts, meetings, and recording work all under one roof.
The center was founded by Spanish Civil War veterans in the early 1970s and relocated several times before settling on Harrow Road in 1982. This final move marked the beginning of its most active period as an underground music venue.
The space served as a hub for anarcho-punk musicians and activists during the 1980s. The venue reflected the do-it-yourself ethos and political views of this underground music scene.
The space was hard to find and required knowledge of the local underground scene to locate it. Visitors should expect unpredictable opening times and announcements passed through word of mouth.
William Orbit founded his music label Guerilla Records at the center while living there simultaneously. This connection to a producer who later achieved national success shows how important the space was for artists who went on to become widely recognized.
