Chinbrook Meadows

Chinbrook Meadows is a spacious park featuring open meadows and wooded areas with tennis courts, multi-sport facilities, an outdoor fitness station, and cricket pitches. The site offers a range of recreational options spread throughout its grounds.

The park began as a modest play area in 1929 and grew substantially through an additional land purchase completed in 1937. This expansion was built on the site of a former working farm that once occupied the area.

The Desmond Tutu Peace Garden provides visitors with a space for reflection on peace and reconciliation within the local community. This memorial shows how open spaces in the city serve as gathering places for shared values.

The park can be accessed from multiple entry points along different roads, making it easy to reach from various neighborhoods around it. Visitors can walk through during daytime or evening hours, with the space remaining open throughout these periods.

A river runs through the park and was restored from a concrete channel into a natural waterway with wooden footbridges in the early 2000s. This transformation allows visitors to encounter flowing water and natural surroundings within the urban setting.
