Caversham Park, Country house in Caversham, England

Caversham Park is a country house near Reading featuring ancient Greek architectural elements and multiple connected wings. The building occupies an estate with gardens and parkland surrounding it on all sides.

The estate originated in Norman times following 1066, when it appeared in the Domesday Book. Over subsequent centuries, the site developed into an important country property.

The mansion hosted royal gatherings, including a 1613 entertainment for Anne of Denmark with theatrical performances between a Cynic and Traveller character.

The grounds are extensive and require time to explore all areas and gardens fully. Plan a morning or afternoon visit to walk through the estate at a comfortable pace.

An American founding father visited the estate in 1786 to study the garden design for his own property. His observations of the landscape arrangements influenced his architectural plans back home.
