Caverswall Castle, Medieval quadrangular castle in Caverswall, England
The castle features stone mullioned windows across its three stories, surrounded by a preserved moat and defensive curtain walls from 1275.
Matthew Cradock, the first mayor of Stafford and a wool merchant, rebuilt the deteriorated castle into a mansion in 1615.
The property served as a Benedictine nunnery in 1811 and later housed the Sisters of the Holy Ghost and Daughters of the House of Mary.
The Grade I listed building requires specific permits for any modifications, and current regulations restrict various commercial and entertainment activities.
The castle remains one of the few moated fortifications in England that maintains its original medieval external walls with modern interior amenities.
