Foxfield Railway, Heritage railway in Forsbrook, United Kingdom
Foxfield Railway is a heritage railway in Forsbrook that operates train journeys covering around 5.5 miles through open moorland and woodland with steep gradients. The line connects several remote stations and features original station buildings from the operating period.
The line opened in 1893 to serve Dilhorne colliery in the Cheadle Coalfield and connected to the North Staffordshire Railway near Blythe Bridge. Following the decline of coal mining, the railway closed in 1965 and was later restored as a leisure service.
The railway houses the largest collection of standard gauge steam locomotives in Staffordshire and preserves industrial railway heritage through regular demonstrations and exhibits. Visitors can watch these machines in action and learn about the work of railway operators.
Trains operate on weekends and bank holidays from April to October, with special events in December. It is advisable to check the schedule in advance, as weather can affect operating conditions.
The station features the One Legged Shunter bar, which serves local ales and drinks alongside a museum displaying railway artifacts. This creates a relaxed spot where visitors can linger between train journeys.
