Christ Church, Chester, Gothic Revival church in Chester, England
Christ Church is a Gothic Revival church built with red brick walls, stone dressings, and sandstone sections. The building features a distinctive cantilevered timber-framed bell cote positioned above the south porch entrance.
Construction of the church happened in stages between 1893 and 1904, with architect John Douglas completing different sections one after another. Each phase added new areas such as the chancel, chapel, and baptistry sections.
The interior displays artistic details created in the late 1800s, including paintings and stained glass windows. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship of that era in several elements throughout the space.
The church is located on Somerset Street and functions as an active place of worship and community space. Visitors should check regular opening times when planning to explore the interior and its features.
Inside are two different baptismal fonts: one carved from stone with an octagonal shape and another made from white alabaster. These fonts side by side show different periods of the church's history.
