Cefn Mably House, Grade II listed country house in Rudry, Wales
Cefn Mably House is a listed country house combining Tudor architectural features with a Georgian east wing, situated in the Welsh countryside. The building was converted into residential apartments in the early 2000s while retaining its historic character.
The building originated in the early 12th century and underwent significant reconstruction in Tudor style during the late 16th century under Edward Kemeys, High Sheriff of Glamorgan. Its conversion to a tuberculosis sanatorium in 1924 and incorporation into the National Health Service established its medical role.
The house served as a tuberculosis sanatorium where sick patients lived together for treatment, becoming an important part of the local community's memory. People in the area still recall its time as a medical facility and what it meant to their families.
The property now consists of residential apartments and stands on elevated ground in the Welsh countryside. Note that it is private property, and the exterior is best viewed from the road.
The walls of a former kitchen garden form a separate listed structure on the western side of the grounds. This hidden structure is nearly completely overgrown with woodland and often overlooked by visitors.
