The Fifth London County Council Asylum opened in 1893 under the direction of architect George Thomas Hine, using an innovative Compact Arrow layout for patient care.
The hospital established one of England's first laboratories dedicated to studying mental illness pathology, advancing medical knowledge throughout the twentieth century.
The Grade II listed building complex transformed into Repton Park residential development in 1997, preserving numerous original architectural features.
The former chapel of the hospital now functions as a swimming pool and health center within the gated community.
