London Borough of Redbridge, Administrative borough in East London, England.
The London Borough of Redbridge is an administrative district in the eastern part of the British capital, covering several town centers, residential areas, and parks. Public transport links the individual hubs such as Ilford, Wanstead, and Woodford with each other and the rest of London.
The borough was established in 1965 during the Greater London reorganization by merging the former municipal areas of Ilford, Wanstead, Woodford, and parts of Dagenham. This restructuring unified the administration of several previously independent towns on the eastern fringe.
Valentines Mansion preserves Georgian living spaces and displays rotating art exhibitions in its period rooms. The Kenneth More Theatre stages plays and concerts that draw audiences from across East London.
The borough is accessible through several Underground and railway lines running through its individual town centers. Most public facilities and green spaces remain open year-round and see regular use on weekdays.
The name derives from a red brick bridge that crossed the River Roding until 1921, standing out against surrounding pale stone structures. This bridge was demolished, yet the name remained for the entire borough.
